I really enjoyed playing both Track & Field and Hyper Sports when I was a kid. I had a Track & Field board along time ago, and sold it for some reason. Ever since that time, I have wanted another and just couldn’t pull the trigger on buying one. I recently found an untested one on KLOV for a good price, and decided to try my luck with it.
I got the PCB in the mail and could tell right away that the game wasn’t going to work. The power connector to the two boards was damaged.

I replaced the power connector and tested the board, and it was dead. I flexed the ribbon cable a little bit and was able to get an some garbage displayed on the screen.

I replaced the ribbon cable thinking that was going to fix my problem and didn’t. It was still intermittent.

The IC sockets on these games are not good, and decided to replace the 42-pin, CPU socket.

Once I did this, the intermittent problem went away and the game started to play. However, the game had some sprite problems.

This was also due to bad sockets. If I pressed down on the four Eproms in the middle of the bottom board the issue cleared up.

Once thing left was to fix the world record display in the top right corner. I replaced the battery and flipped dip switch 2, pin 5 to on. This erased the current data and cleaned up the text on the record board.

This ended up being a fairly easy fix, but excited to have this PCB back in my collection!
