Introduction

I received a Space Invaders Deluxe cocktail cabinet that had sat untouched for many years. Interestingly, it shares some similarities with a Pac-Man cocktail I repaired in the past. The owner believed it had not worked in decades, so I decided to restore each board step by step. First, I evaluated the main 8080 CPU board to make sure the game could run properly.

Main 8080 CPU Board

To begin, I installed a new IC socket for the CPU, cleaned the solder pads, reinstalled the chip, and tested all functions. As a result, the board worked perfectly after the repair.

Audio Board Repairs

Next, I focused on the audio board. I replaced IC K5 and IC K4 and then tested the sound circuitry. Afterward, the audio returned fully, making the game playable again.

Power Supply Board Work

After repairing the audio, I moved to the power supply board. I replaced all filter capacitors and verified the voltages. I also discovered a blown fuse that caused the missing audio. Once I installed a new fuse, I retested the board and confirmed it worked correctly.

Speaker Replacement

Even with the repaired power supply, the speaker still did not work. Therefore, I removed the old speaker and installed a new one. Finally, the game produced clear sound, completing the main repairs.

Final Testing and Upgrades

Once all boards were repaired, I powered up the game, and it displayed and played correctly. Additionally, I ordered a multigame kit to give the owner more gameplay options.

Conclusion

The owner was thrilled to play the Space Invaders Deluxe cocktail arcade again after years of inactivity. Overall, restoring a classic arcade game like this is always rewarding.
